Overview

What Is the HSC Result Calculator?

The HSC result calculator works out your Higher Secondary Certificate GPA in Bangladesh from your subject marks. It converts each subject’s total into a letter grade and grade point, applies the fourth subject bonus, checks for failures and shows the final GPA on the 5.00 scale.

HSC results are reported as GPA, not as a university-style CGPA. If you are already at university, use the CGPA Calculator for your semester results, or the Percentage Converter when a form asks for a percentage.

Step-by-Step

How to Use This HSC GPA Calculator

1

Select Your Group

Choose Science, Humanities or Business Studies. The subject list changes to match your group, and you can swap the fourth subject from the drop-down.

2

Enter Total Marks for Each Subject

Type the combined total of both papers for each subject and choose the maximum shown on your marksheet (100 or 200). Each subject counts once.

3

Mark Any Failed Component

If your marksheet shows a failed paper, MCQ, theory or practical component, tick the failure box for that subject. Totals alone cannot show this.

4

Read Your GPA and Breakdown

Your final GPA, pass or fail status, main subject GPA and fourth subject bonus appear in the result card, with the full calculation below it.

Understand the Numbers

How HSC GPA Is Calculated

Add the grade points of your six main subjects, add the fourth subject bonus, then divide by six. The final GPA is capped at 5.00.

GPA = (main GP total + optional bonus) ÷ 6

Bangla’s two papers form one subject, and the same applies to other two-paper subjects. This calculator divides total marks by the selected maximum to find the percentage, then applies fixed grade bands. It never averages seven subjects and never rounds a percentage up to the next grade.

How the Fourth Subject Works

Only grade points above 2.00 contribute: bonus = max(0, optional GP − 2.00). An A+ adds 3.00, A adds 2.00, A− adds 1.50 and B adds 1.00. C, D and F add zero. These are extra points in the total, not a direct increase of the same size in your GPA.

Fixed Grade Bands

HSC Grading System

These marks apply to a 100-mark subject. For a 200-mark subject, use the equivalent percentage: A+ starts at 160.

HSC marks, letter grades and grade points
Marks / 100GradeGrade point
80–100A+5.00
70–79A4.00
60–69A−3.50
50–59B3.00
40–49C2.00
33–39D1.00
0–32F0.00

For fractional percentages from combined totals, each band ends just below the next threshold: 79.5% is A, not A+.

Worked Example

HSC GPA Calculation Example

Suppose your main subject grade points are 5, 4, 5, 4, 5 and 4, and your optional subject earns 5.

Main GP total27.00
Optional bonus: 5 − 2+3.00
Effective total30.00
Final GPA: 30 ÷ 65.00

Pass, Fail and GPA 5

Failing a Subject, GPA 5 and Golden A+

An F in any main subject means the overall result is Fail, even if the other grade points would give a high average. The calculator names the failed subjects and withholds the final numerical GPA.

An F in the optional subject adds no bonus. It does not cause an overall failure when all six main subjects pass. Do not use a high combined total to override a known component failure.

GPA 5.00 can be reached with the optional bonus even when some main subjects have an A. “Golden A+” is an informal term for A+ in every subject, including the optional subject. It is not a separate grade calculated here.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Add the grade points of your six main subjects, add the fourth subject bonus, divide by six and cap the result at 5.00. A failure in any main subject overrides the numerical calculation.

The highest HSC GPA is 5.00. Extra optional-subject points cannot take it above that cap.

It adds the portion of its grade point above 2.00 to your main grade point total. An A+ gives a bonus of 3.00 before the total is divided by six.

No. The divisor stays six. The optional subject contributes a bonus rather than counting as a seventh main subject.

Your overall result is Fail. Other grades and the fourth subject bonus cannot cancel that failure.

A+ starts at 80 out of 100, or 160 out of 200, subject to the pass requirements of each paper or component.

A− earns 3.50 grade points. Its threshold is 60%, up to but not including 70%.

Yes, if its grade point is above 2.00. At C, D or F it contributes zero bonus.

No. Even when the formula produces a higher number, the reported GPA is capped at 5.00.

No. Optional bonus points can produce GPA 5.00 even when some main subjects are below A+. Golden A+ is the informal term for A+ in every subject.

Add both paper totals and enter the combined subject mark. Select 200 as the maximum if both papers are out of 100. Use the maximum that applies to your examination.

No. It estimates your GPA using the grading and optional-subject rules explained on this page. It does not check every examination-year exception or component pass threshold. Use your education board's published result for official purposes.
