How the Conversion Works

GPA to CGPA converter supporting 4.0, 5.0, 7.0 and 10-point grading scales

GPA and CGPA use the same proportional logic — they're both weighted averages on different scales. The universal formula is simple:

GPA → CGPA
(GPA ÷ Scale) × Target
Divide your GPA by its scale max, then multiply by the CGPA scale max.
CGPA → GPA
(CGPA ÷ Scale) × Target
Divide your CGPA by its scale max, then multiply by the GPA scale max.
Example
3.5 / 4.0 × 10 = 8.75
A GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale equals a CGPA of 8.75 on a 10.0 scale.

GPA (Grade Point Average) and CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) measure academic performance, but on different scales. GPA is commonly used in the US on a 4.0 scale, while CGPA is widely used in India on a 10.0 scale. Both calculate a weighted average of your grade points.
No. The proportional formula used here is the most universal approach, but individual universities may use custom conversion tables or formulas. Always verify with your institution's official grading policy for accurate results.
Use the CGPA → GPA panel above: select 10.0 as your current CGPA scale and 4.0 as the target GPA scale. The formula is (CGPA ÷ 10) × 4. For example, a CGPA of 8.5 converts to a GPA of 3.40.
This tool provides a helpful estimate for reference purposes. For official US university applications, many institutions require a WES (World Education Services) credential evaluation or a transcript evaluation by an accredited agency rather than a self-converted figure.
The percentage equivalent shows what percentage of the maximum possible grade you achieved. It is calculated as (Your GPA or CGPA ÷ Scale Maximum) × 100. This is useful for institutions that prefer percentage-based grading.
